Select Gems

Select Gems

The Select Gems panel lists every gem in the document by cut, then by size and material, with how many stones share each row, and selects them from the list. The sizes come from what is in the model, so you pick a row instead of typing a size. Open it from File › Panels or with the ArtisanSelectGems command; it docks like Quick Gems.

The list

  • Cuts: A group per cut, the most frequent first, with its stone count.
  • Rows: A row per size and material inside each cut — width, and length for the fancy cuts, in millimeters — sorted by size, with the number of stones that share it.
  • Click a row to select its gems; click it again when they are all selected to deselect them. A cut selects or deselects every row under it. Objects that are not gems keep whatever selection they had.
  • The check boxes follow the selection: full when every stone of the row is selected, half when some are, empty when none. Select in the viewport, in the Outliner or with Rhino’s own tools and the list updates.
  • Deselect all clears the gem selection; the counter under the list shows how many gems are selected.

Header buttons

  • Color gemstones by size: Paints the gems in the viewport with one color per size, as the Pavé commands do.
  • Show / Hide Sizes: Labels each gem with its size in millimeters.
  • Refresh: Lists the gems again. The panel keeps itself in sync while it is open; Refresh is for when you want to be sure.

Both display buttons are off when the panel opens and remembered for the session.

The command

ArtisanSelectGems typed in the command line, or run from a script, selects by options instead of from the list: Shape (a cut, or All), Size in millimeters (0 for any), Material (All, or one) and Add, to keep the selection you started with. The command line lists the cuts in the document and, once a cut is chosen, the sizes it comes in. Enter keeps the selection; Esc restores the one you had.
