Configurators

Configurators

Prepare jewelry variants and GLB assets for a product configurator. These tools generate size variations, export models and optimize files for use in your configurator.

Type a command name in Rhino’s command line and press Enter.

Workflow

  1. Save your design and organize its components into layers.
  2. Use Generate Gemset Variants if you need several center-stone sizes.
  3. Choose Export GLB for a model, Layers to GLB for separate layer assets, or Folder to GLB for a batch of saved models.
  4. Use Optimize GLB Files on the exported assets.

Generate Gemset Variants

ArtisanConfGemsetGenerator

Creates six size variants from the current layer. Prepare a 1 ct diamond setting on a layer whose name contains 100, with the gem and the geometry to resize together on that layer.

The command uses the gem with the largest X dimension as its reference. It creates diamonds of the same shape at 0.50, 0.75, 1.25, 1.50, 1.75 and 2.00 ct, and copies and scales the other objects on the layer to match the new gem dimensions. Scaling is relative to the world origin, so prepare the source setting around that origin.

The new layer names replace 100 with 050, 075, 125, 150, 175 and 200. Existing variant layers are skipped.

Check wall thicknesses, prongs and stone seats in every variant: this Windows command scales the surrounding geometry rather than rebuilding each setting from its parameters. The new reference stones are diamonds, even when the source gem has another material.

Export GLB

ArtisanConfExportToGlb

Exports a GLB from the current document. The command requires geometry on at least one of these layers: Metal 01, Metal 02, Metal 03, Gem 01, Gem 02 or Gem 03.

  1. Prepare a document containing the model you want to export.
  2. Run the command and enter a file prefix and SKU.
  3. Choose the destination folder and whether existing files may be overwritten.

The file is named prefix_SKU.glb and saved in a glb subfolder of the chosen destination. Existing files are skipped unless you enable overwriting.

Other visible, unlocked layers can also be included in the Windows export. Use a copy of your design containing only the intended export geometry, or use Layers to GLB to choose specific layers.

Folder to GLB

ArtisanConfFolderToGlb

Converts saved .3dm models from a folder and its subfolders. A .glb is written beside each source model; existing GLB files are kept.

Run the command, choose the folder of models and wait for the conversion summary. Reopen your working document afterwards if needed.

Layers to GLB

ArtisanConfLayerToGlb

Exports each selected layer as a separate GLB asset.

  1. Save the Rhino document and give the layers unique, filename-safe names.
  2. Run the command and choose the visible layers to export.
  3. Choose a slot for Metal, PrimaryGems and SecondaryStones, then press Enter.

Recognized gems of 0.30 ct or more are assigned to PrimaryGems; smaller gems go to SecondaryStones. Other supported geometry is assigned to Metal. Choose different gem slots for primary and secondary stones when the layer contains both, for example Gem_01 and Gem_02, so both groups are exported.

Files are named after their layers and written to a glb folder beside the saved document. Use unique layer names even for layers under different parents, and keep a copy of previous exports if you need to retain them.

Optimize GLB Files

ArtisanConfCompressGLB

Uses the gltf-transform command-line tool to optimize GLB files in a folder and its subfolders. Install the tool for Windows first and make sure gltf-transform --version works from Command Prompt; the command stops if the tool is unavailable.

Choose the folder of exported GLBs. Optimized copies are written under an optimized subfolder, preserving the relative folder structure and leaving the source files in place. The command reports successful and failed files and their size changes.

Move any previous optimized output outside the input folder before another run, so those generated files are not included in the next batch.
