Shanks

Shanks

The shank is the part of the ring that goes round the finger, and it is where almost every ring starts. Get the size right first: everything else is built on that curve.

The list follows the ribbon top to bottom, group by group.

Ring setup

Before any shank exists, there is a ring curve at the right size.

  • Create Ring Curve — the curve every shank is built on, at the size you choose.
    • Estimate — work out the size from an existing ring or a diameter, in the submenu.
    • Cut by Ring Size — trim a finished ring to a different size.

Styles

The band itself. Each style is a command with its own panel; several carry a submenu with an advanced or related variant.

  • Classic — the plain round band, the starting point for most rings.
    • Braided — a woven band. The button is in the ribbon but its command does not exist yet.
  • Cathedral — shoulders that rise towards the centre stone.
    • Advanced Cathedral — the same with every section under your control.
    • Bypass — the two ends pass each other instead of meeting.
  • Eternity — stones all the way round.
  • Advanced Ring — build the band from your own sections along the ring curve.
  • Signet — the flat top for a seal or engraving.
  • Class Ring — the graduation-ring layout, with its sides and centre stone.
  • Wedding — the wedding band.
    • Band — a plain band on its own.
    • Matching — a band that follows the contour of an engagement ring so the two sit together.
  • Pave — a band prepared for pave setting.
  • Two Rows — two rows of stones along the band.
  • Split Shank — the band divides as it reaches the head.
  • Graduated — a band that changes width from the bottom to the shoulders.

Ring utilities

Applied to a shank once it exists.

  • Scoop — hollow the inside of the band to save metal and sit better on the finger.
  • Engraving — engrave text on the band.
