Offset and Fit the Rails

Objective: Learn how to create the second rail and how to reduce its control points for a clean surface.
Offset the Curve
Select the curve and use the front view. Go to the “Curve” tab and, with the curve still selected, use the “Offset” command.
From the front view, type 3 in the command bar to create an offset curve 3 mm away, and simply click to create it.
Why We Need Fit
When you select the created curves you’ll see the offset curve has many control points. That makes it difficult to work with, because it produces polysurfaces instead of a clean surface.
Fit Command
Select both curves, go to the “Curve” tab and click on the “Fit” command.
As you can see in the command bar, the tolerance is set to 0.1. If you have different parameters, type 0.1 and press Enter to execute the command.
The number of points is reduced and the curves are ready to work with.
