Clasp, Insertion Slot and Hinge Pin

Objective: Learn how to fit the clasp and close the model, ready for rendering.

Import and Position the Clasp

Import the clasp and position it using the gumball. You can download the file at the bottom of this lesson.

Insertion Slot

Extrude the reference curve with the gumball until it extends beyond the arm, then move it slightly to the left so it cuts the solid.

Use the “Boolean Difference” command:

• Select the right solid and press Enter.
• Select the extrusion and press Enter.

This creates the clasp’s insertion slot.

Join the Tab

Join the small tab to the solid using “Boolean Union”.

Hinge Pin

Lastly, we need to create the hinge pin. Go to the “Surface” tab and use the “Extrude” command.

• Select the edge of the hole created for the hinge.

• Extrude it to the other side of the solid.

Then, in the “Solid” tab, use the “Cap” command to close it.

The pin is now a closed solid that runs through the hinge, holding both halves of the earring together.
