Opening RhinoGold Files in RhinoArtisan: Standardize and Keep Working

Your RhinoGold library is still there. The files are .3dm. They open in current Rhino.
What does not travel for free is the jewelry data on the stones. A RhinoGold gem is geometry plus jewelry meaning. In another plugin it is often just a mesh until you convert it.
That conversion is what Standardize is for.
The gap after you open the file
Open an old production ring. The shank looks fine. The pavé looks fine. Then you try to change a carat, run a weight, or build a report: the stones are not live RhinoArtisan gems yet.
You either rebuild by hand, or you convert.
What Standardize does
Coming from RhinoGold, Matrix or MatrixGold, Standardize organises the file, converts the gems, and hands the model back clean: ready for pricing, reports and the rest of the RhinoArtisan toolset.
In practice:
- Open the
.3dmin Rhino with RhinoArtisan loaded. - Run Standardize (and use Recover on gems when you need a targeted convert).
- Check orientation. If a stone looks flipped, use Turn Upside Down.
- From MatrixGold, gems often sit in blocks: ExplodeBlock first, then convert.
When it works, the library stops being archive and becomes editable again: size, price, report, manufacture.
Why this matters in 2026
RhinoGold is still installed in many studios and no longer supported. We already covered that story here: RhinoGold in 2026. The practical next question is narrower: how do I open this file and keep working today.
Standardize is the short answer. Your designs stay in Rhino. Your gems become RhinoArtisan gems. You do not redraw the collection to get a quote.
